Two-part position supports organizational growth

February 6th, 2019

The fast-growing Danish hotel chain, Zleep Hotels, takes on more staff and undergoes yet another redeployment caused by organizational growth. To handle the Director of Operations position and thus 11 hotels the hotel chain has chosen to split the position in two. The two-part position supports the organization’s sustainable development ensuring the successful journey to continue. To manage the position is Jytte Vestergaard (left) and Birgitte Nørgaard (right).

The link between operation and management

There are several reasons why Zleep Hotels has chosen to create a two-part position. First of all, the hotel chain is experiencing massive growth, increasing the need for resources and staff in both management and operation. Secondly, the chain’s COO, Per Denker Sørensen, has been promoted to CEO of the former sister organization Core Hospitality. Because of Deutsche Hospitality’s investment in Zleep Hotels, Core Hospitality and Zleep are now divided in two:

“Per and I have worked together for many years now and I have great confidence that Per will be an excellent CEO in Core Hospitality. With Zleep’s new German co-owners, we have decided to split Core Hospitality and Zleep Hotels in two. With Deutsche Hospitality’s investment, we expect to be able to operate 40 Zleep hotels in 2025, and therefore we need more hands in management as well as in the operations of the hotels. The two-part position is thus needed to support organizational growth”, says Peter Haaber, CEO of Zleep Hotels.

As Director of Operations, both Jytte Vestergaard and Birgitte Nørgaard are responsible for ensuring the operation, being a sparring partner for the hotel managers and assisting the service office in implementing new initiatives at the hotels.

From Hotel Manager to Director of Operations

Jytte Vestergaard, former Hotel Manager at Zleep Hotel Aarhus Viby and Area Manager, has since the turn of the year served as Director of Operations with responsibility for the hotel chain’s Jutlandic hotels. According to Jytte Vestergaard, Zleep Hotels has its feet firmly planted in a busy, but also exciting, period of development:

“I am extremely happy to be a sparring partner for my Hotel Managers during this exciting time for Zleep. It will be an interesting, but also busy period, with new hotel startups and staff training. I am very happy that Birgitte is now on the team, so that we together can solve the tasks that may arise,” says Jytte Vestergaard, Director of Operations.

Jutland is currently housing four Zleep hotels respectively in Billund, Kolding, Aarhus Viby and Aalborg. Later this year another hotel in Aarhus will open in the Skejby.

As tailored to the position

Birgitte Nørgaard has assumed responsibility for the hotels in Zealand. She entered Zleep Hotels February the 1st with a solid service and hotel experience, most recently as Key Account Manager at ISS Facility Services. In addition, she has 16 years of hotel experience from, among others, Copenhagen Island as both Front Office Manager, Rooms Division Manager and Hotel Manager. Hereby Birgitte Nørgaard is tailored to the position:

“I am passionate about the hotel industry, and I am looking very much forward to be coming back as well as to be a part of Zleep Hotels. With my many years of experience with hotel operations I am ready to support and collaborate with Hotel Managers and other teams to ensure quality, beneficial operation and development within the existing hotels. Since I have experience with previous hotel openings, I know what it takes, and I look forward to the new Zleep openings in the years to come. Zleep Hotels is in rapid development, and it is a super exciting time for me to come aboard this journey,” says Birgitte Nørgaard about starting as Director of Operations in Zleep Hotels.

Zleep Hotels currently has six hotels on Zealand respectively in Roskilde, Kalundborg, Ishøj, Ballerup and two in Copenhagen. In addition, in 2020, the hotel chain will open three new Zleep hotels in Hillerød, Ørestad and Lyngby. The hotel chain has just made its entrance into Sweden with the opening of Zleep Hotel Upplands Väsby just outside of Stockholm.
