Deutsche Hospitality wins prestigious Nordic hotel award with acquisition of Zleep Hotels

May 9th, 2019

Thursday afternoon Deutsche Hospitality and the Danish hotel chain Zleep Hotels won the prestigious award ‘The Nordic Hotel Professional of the Year Award’. The nomination was appointed to Deutsche Hospitality and Zleep Hotels due to the major hotel player’s acquisition of Zleep as a niche company.

Of great importance to the Nordic hotel market

The award is given to recognize strong leadership in the hotel industry and is given to a player with great importance for the development of the Nordic hotel market.

“We are delighted to receive this award, because Zleep Hotels are the perfect addition to our brand portfolio,” said Deutsche Hospitality’s CEO Thomas Willms, who attended the Nordic Hotel Investment Conference in Copenhagen: “This new brand and the locations in Denmark and Sweden will enable us to expand our presence in important areas and thus offer our customers an even wider network.”

“Receiving this award is a really great recognition from our peers. We have all worked hard to get the deal with Deutsche Hospitality done, and we can all be proud of the achievement in getting the two companies together. Both Zleep and Deutsche Hospitality have made a huge effort in getting things done and shown a strong willingness to get things flowing”, said Peter Haaber, CEO in Zleep Hotels after winning the award.

First transaction of its kind in the North

“The acquisition of Zleep Hotels by Deutsche Hospitality marks a major milestone in Nordic hospitality M&A. Following a wave of global consolidations among hotel companies, this transaction highlights the potential increasingly being explored from major international players in niche growth platforms. The acquisition of Zleep Hotels marks the first of such transaction by an international player in the Nordics. Zleep Hotels has strong growth potential, both in the Nordics and internationally”, informed the NCH selection board at the time of the nomination.
In January 2019, Deutsche Hospitality bought 51 percent of Zleep Hotels.

Among this year’s nominees were also Hines, ICON and NREP. The award has just been presented at the NHC conference ‘Leading Nordic Hotel Investment and Development Conference’ in Copenhagen.
